An ISO file is a similar copy of an optical disk such as a Blu-ray, DVD, or CD archived into a single file. The file is a more miniature-sized duplicate of large data sets and is sometimes referred to as an ISO image. Therefore, ISO files are primarily used to back up optical disks or when storing data more functionally.

The actual function of ISO files is to replicate the original optical disk and store it until it is required to burn a new disk with the same data. Also, you can use it to transfer files such as a game from an old disk to a computer when there is no physical disk to perform the task.

ISO files are, however, used for greater purposes. Since they are single files containing vast amounts of data, they are used as vessels for large programs or operating systems. Operating systems such as Windows 10 are therefore available for download as ISO images. They are handled by the programs as though they were an optical disk within the computer’s optical drive.

How To Recover An ISO File

Disk Drill for Windows data recovery software is very easy to recover ISO files. However, you will need to download the software to your Windows computer before proceeding with the recovery process.

Other than Disk Drill, you can try several different software solutions. However, Disk Drill is one of the leading data recovery software for Mac and PC in the market today and will help you recover ISO files quickly. Also, you can use the software to recover deleted, lost, and even formatted data from PC, SD cards, and external hard drives.

Here are other reasons to choose Disk Drill:

    • Supports a wide range of file formats
    • Can recover permanently deleted files
    • Compatible with a wide range of storage devices
    • Can recover files from partitions

    Step by Step Guide

With the Disk Drill data recovery software, you have a straightforward recovery process for lost ISO files. In this section, we will show you the process. Follow the steps below.

    Step 1: Launch Disk Drill

Once you download the software from the official website, install it and launch it to begin the process. Select the files from the main interface and click “Next.”

    Step 2: Scan the computer

Disk Drill works with innovative recovery technology and will quickly identify and recover trash on Mac. But you have to select the location of the files. For instance, choose D drive if the ISO files were initially on the D drive.

Once you have selected the location, click the “Start” button. The software will initiate the scanning process, and you will scan the whole drive for lost files. The results of the scanning will also be displayed.

    Step 3: Recover ISO Files

Once you get the scanning results, select the files and folders to be recovered, then click “Recover.” At this time, you should successfully recover files from trash on Mac or PC. You should, however, be very sure of the final destination of the recovered files to make it easier to locate them.

    How To Prevent ISO Loss

The steps above will help you recover ISO files on both Windows and Mac. However, even with the best data recovery apps on Mac, you still need to take precautionary measures to protect your ISO files from accidental loss. But how can you prevent ISO file loss on your computer? Here are the three essential tips.

Tip 1: Do not mess with unfamiliar files

When you work with any operating system, there are chances you will encounter several forms of files, some of which may not be very easy to restore with data recovery. Although some of the files may not be familiar to you, these files are critical to running your computer operating system. Deleting or messing up with them could cause the operating system to become unstable and lead to further data loss. It is, therefore, better to leave unfamiliar files untouched.

Tip 2: Use a surge protector

A power surge can be fatal to your computer’s operating system. You can therefore lose data or even end up with a dead computer, which can be very expensive. It is therefore advisable to invest in a surge protector, especially if you live in an area with unpredictable electric currents.

Tip 3: Keep off food and drinks from your work computer

As much as this goes without saying, several people still dangerously keep drinks and other foodstuffs close to their laptops. You can never be too careful with stuff with the risk of spilling it onto your computer. Keep them off your working area to protect your computer and files.
